Amazing Dogs of the POC

The Return of Famous Seamus

May 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Seamus (Sheiling Angelic Ties HIC RN RL1) earned three qualifying scores in the Dogz Downtown APDT rally trial in RI this weekend. He also placed fourth in the second trial, so we brought home a very nice rosette to complement our Q ribbons.

Since Seamus has his RL1, the additional Qs bring us 3/10 of the way toward Seamus’s Level 1 championship title (RL1X). Whoopity Whoopity!

Fitchburg Show Brag

The lovely and talented Miss Dinah Moe Burfitt (Breaksea November Storm, HIC) went Best of Winners at the Worcester County show on Saturday, earning her third point. On Sunday, she got Reserve Winners Bitch, but no more points. All in all, it wasn’t a bad way to finish out the dog-show year. (We’re not showing in Boston.)

I saw some fellow POC members and folks from Wednesday night obedience classes. Does anybody have anything else to report?

Dog Walking 101

November 30, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Excerpt from the November Newsletter…by Sue Walsh, POC President and Editor of Newsletter

Today as the dogs and I went on our walk, I began to think about all the benefits of “dog walking.”  And I thought it might be neat to list a few, the ones that I miss, well, I am sure you will easily think up.

  1. Patience level – there is a certain calmness that seems to result after a good walk.
  2. Noise level – it is definitely quieter when we get in from our walks.
  3. Cheap entertainment – Except for the “expense” of a few good collars, leashes and a pair of shoes, it doesn’t cost anything to get out there.  And we often run into neighbors and friends and enjoy a good chat.  Also, this time of year, how can you beat the scenery around here?
  4. Weight control – seems like I don’t worry so much about the food consumption if we have been faithful about our walks.
  5. Adventure time – great opportunity to “hunt and see who has been there a head of you.”
  6. Bonding time – with everyone going in so many different directions, this is a good time to be all together as a group.
  7. Quiet time – no TVs, computers, or phones (cell stays home) out here, good time to listen tot he world around you.

Yup–nothing beats a good walk!!  At least for me, oh, and I am sure the dogs get something out of it as well.
